What is an ESE coffee pod?

A coffee pod, coffee is in line with the tea bags: a pre-portioned coffee service wrapped in a paper filter, ready to be infused with water. ESE (Easy Serving Espresso) is the global standard for waffles. Each pod that the standard can be used in any ESE espresso machine, the ESE compatible is met.

An ESE pod contains between 6.5-7.5 grams of coffee, packaged in a tight circle puck. The sleeve is placed in a special pod filter (usually with your coffee included) that fits inside the holder.

History of the Pods
Pad coffee machines were originally designed for use in the workplace Italian designed to speed and a cleaner for workers and enjoy a coffee at the office. Later, these machines have been adapted for use in restaurants, on the need for anyone to train with a traditional espresso machine, to deny.

UsingPod machines> Espresso in the house does not become popular until Illy ESE-Standard was founded in 1998. With the introduction of this rule, Illy enjoy a concerted effort to mass market, these machines as a convenient way of espresso at home.

Pods vs. Traditional Preparation
The main selling point is the convenience of the pods. The traditional method for espresso requires skill and creates a lot of chaos. Sanders must be calibratedto obtain the proper flow rate, the coffee must be formulated and connected properly, and then coffee grounds, all equipment must be cleaned, work space and typically the ground. With an ESE pod, there is no such thing. The pods have already been formulated and prepared to contain the coffee and stay in the filter paper. Once complete, the software can be disposed of the pod like a tea bag

However, the convenience of the pods has a price: the taste of a traditionalEspresso prepared (well done) is better than an espresso ESE. Compared to the traditional method lacks depth and vivacity ESE Espresso taste in the mouth. The reason is not, beans are as fresh as the coffee in the traditional method, with pods, and the fermentation time is too fast, as flavoring extract.

For Espresso with the traditional method of coffee will keep the ground immediately before useFreshness. This is because the current release process of correcting lost aromatics from the coffee cup from the end, if not used quickly. The ground coffee has an area much larger than that of coffee, so that more susceptible to air. However Pods are far from stale. Once the floor is the coffee puck quickly into a narrow, although important for espresso fillings, also serves to reduce the area of coffee. Most manufacturers also held in their podsfoil packets to maintain their flavor.

The throughput of an ESE Espresso is faster than the conventional method. In the traditional method, the goal is to create an espresso of about 1.25 ounces in volume in the range of 25-30 seconds, as this is the optimal time to extract the flavor as possible before the release of bitter compounds, and excessive caffeine beverages. With an ESE pod is less than half this time to the appropriate volume can produce.Pods are designed to have higher throughput, to improve the consistency from shot to shot. However, the rate faster flow of least resistance, caused by the water in the brewing process and this in turn leads to a beer lower blood pressure, resulting in a flatter extraction. Since there is no possibility of throughput with an ESE pod control, it would be impossible, changes expressed as a narrow or long to do.

The fact that there are portions deny the need for on-siteCoffee grinder, which can be a considerable savings. A good espresso grinder for the production costs over £ 100. However, the cost of the wafers are much more than coffee beans. Expect three times more than an ESE pod, as you would for the equivalent weight in grains. On the positive side, in contrast with the beans, coffee pods is not wasted.

Waffles vs. Other Coffee Capsules
There are many different types of capsules of coffee on the market, othersas pods, such as Nespresso, and meaning. In terms of price and taste, there is virtually no difference between ESE pods and capsules. However, the big problem is with these capsules others that currently is used exclusively by one manufacturer: Nespresso is made by Nestle, and sensors by Douwe Egberts. For example, if you have a Nespresso machine are compatible, Nestle espresso. On the other hand, the pods are an industry standard and areSo, from all major Italian roasters such as Illy and Lavazza, roasters and many others. So with an ESE-compatible espresso machine, is a much wider choice of coffee. Not only that, but in most ESE-compatible computer, there is the possibility that the traditional way of espresso.
